The Curious Savage is a warmhearted comedy by John Patrick about kindness, greed, and what it really means to be “sane.”

It follows Mrs. Ethel P. Savage, a recently widowed woman who has inherited ten million dollars. Instead of hoarding the fortune or giving it to her selfish stepchildren—Titus, Samuel, and Lily Belle—she plans to use it to help people pursue their quirky, even “foolish,” dreams. Outraged, the stepchildren have her committed to a charming, genteel sanatorium called The Cloisters, hoping to force her into revealing where the money is hidden.
