Meet the Stompers
Melissa and Hannah Johnson
The Stevens County Stompers are a lively community clogging group based in Stevens County, Washington, proudly serving dancers and audiences throughout the region. With roots in the Colville area and classes offered in both Colville and Chewelah, the Stompers welcome all ages and all experience levels, from first-time beginners to seasoned dancers.
Founded more than sixteen years ago by Melissa Johnson, the group has grown into a multigenerational dance family known for energetic performances, tight rhythms, and joyful stage presence. One of their long-time members, Hannah Johnson, has earned national recognition for solo choreography, reflecting the group’s strong foundation in both traditional and competitive clogging.
The Stompers are familiar faces at community celebrations and regional festivals. They have performed for many years at the Spokane Fall Folk Festival and at numerous summer events across the county, bringing upbeat, percussive footwork and crowd-pleasing routines wherever they go.
Clogging is an American folk dance tradition built on rhythmic footwork and group synchronization. The Stevens County Stompers carry that tradition forward with enthusiasm, precision, and a welcoming spirit. Whether performing on a festival stage or teaching new dancers their first steps, they are dedicated to sharing the rhythm, heritage, and pure fun of clogging with the community.
