KICKING OFF OUR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN!

The Chewelah Performing and Cultural Arts (PACA) is thrilled to announce the official launch of its Next Stage Capital Campaign to fund critical updates at the Chewelah Center for the Arts, located at 405 North 3rd Street East in Chewelah, Washington. The campaign aims to raise $500,000 by June 2026 to help fund Phase Two of the theatre's planned expansion. Donations will be leveraged for applications to the Washington State Building for the Arts program and other state and local grants that offer generous matching funds. The Next Stage project will cost a total of $1.5 million, with a completion goal of 2030. More than $200,000 has been raised or pledged from community members to date in early fundraising efforts.

Our current space is holding us back: the lobby is cramped, seating is limited, and backstage conditions are challenging. Events, galas, and gatherings strain against inadequate prep and concession areas.

It’s time for a bold transformation.

Our vision includes a welcoming new entrance, expanded lobby, larger box office, and seating for 200 guests. Audiences will enjoy better sightlines and acoustics, while artists benefit from proper dressing rooms. A new multipurpose room and gallery will showcase local talent and provide a vibrant gathering space for our community.

We Are PACA!

Chewelah Performing and Cultural Arts (PACA) was incorporated in August 2008, achieving its 501(c)(3) status with the mission of creating a premier performing arts facility. As the governing board for the Chewelah Center for the Arts, which opened its doors in 2018, Chewelah PACA ensures availability and accessibility to the performing and visual arts for all members of the greater Chewelah community. Since its inception, the Center has welcomed several resident theater and production companies, showcasing a diverse array of performances. In addition, the Center serves as a vital meeting space for area non-profits, fostering collaboration and connection within the community.​

Community Impact

The Chewelah Center for the Arts has become a cornerstone of our community. It has a proven track record of enriching the local visual and performing art scene, contributing to the local economy, and fostering a strong sense of purpose. With an average of 40 shows presented annually by resident companies and events like the Children's Art Festival and Chewelah's Got Talent, the Center is dedicated to making art accessible and impactful. The Center is also utilized by local non-profits such as the Chewelah Land Trust, 49 Degrees North FAST Racing Team, KCHW Northern Lights Public Radio, and the Chewelah Arts Guild. However, due to the constraints of the historic building, there is inadequate lobby space, limited bathrooms and dressing rooms for performers, and insufficient seating.

Supporting Our Youth

As a long-term fixture in Chewelah, StageTime Theatre School is an integral part of the expansion project. After the school district dropped its theatre program, StageTime was the only outlet available for dramatic arts for area children. Seeing more than 70 kids onstage working together to produce quality shows is a true testament to the power of the arts. Introducing children to live theatre cultivates a lifelong appreciation for the arts and ignites a sense of wonder and curiosity. In the modern era, where screen time is a significant concern, theatre encourages children to engage with the world around them, connect with peers, develop a positive sense of self, and have a lot of fun along the way.
